The creative folks over at Freak’n Genius don’t quite yet have Google Glass, but the clever parody video above sure does make you think otherwise.

The Seattle startup “likes to make fun of everything,” as community manager Gillian Pennington put it. Like many others, the Freak’n Genius employees enjoyed the Google Glass promo video that debuted earlier this week. They liked it so much, in fact, that a funny idea and 100 hours later, the company built its own Google Glass parody video.

The result is a funny clip demonstrating both the technology of Google’s unreleased high-tech glasses, as well as YAKiT, Freak’n Genius’ debut app that is in beta and set for a May release.

“We parodied the commercial as close as we could, with the slant of ‘creating the very first app for Glass,'” Pennington said. “Our goal is to entertain people while stimulating their imaginations and conversations around what is coming in the near future.”

Replacing your bosses head with babies. Entertaining and funny.

Freak’n Genius uses Microsoft’s Kinect to let people crawl into the virtual skin of a variety of animated characters and then create short comedic videos that can be shared over the Web. It was started at a Startup Weekend event in Seattle and recently raised a $525,000 angel round.

The company hit its original $450,000 funding goal within two weeks of graduating from Microsoft’s Kinect Accelerator, a new program which provides support to startups which are using the motion-sensing technology in innovative ways.

Although the Google parody video was mainly for laughs, the company actually does have similar software that allows you to easily communicate using YAKiT. When the app debuts this May, Pennington said that users will be able to take photos and video and share them via text messaging and social media. It’s similar to what happens during the parody video, but for smartphones.

The app will be free with in-app purchases available. To get a better idea of how it works, check out the awesome videos beta testers have been posting at the Freak’n Genius blog.

In addition to Kesterson, who previously co-founded Giant Thinkwell, the team consists of sketch comedy artist Clayton Weller and technologist Dwayne Mercredi. The company is now part of the Washington Interactive Network Reactor in Belltown.
