The Wii’s days are over.
NIntendo’s original motion-controlled console that debuted in 2006 will no longer be produced. As first noted by Kotaku, Nintendo’s Japanese website for the Wii notes that the gaming giant will halt production of the console.
The Wii sold more than 100 million units worldwide since its launch seven years ago and brought motion-based gaming into the living room. The console proved to be very popular, especially with non-traditional gamers who enjoyed using the controller to play titles like Wii Sports and Mario Kart Wii.
However, Nintendo wasn’t able to keep up the craze around Wii with its successor, the Wii U, which debuted last year. In fact, the original Wii has been outselling the Wii U throughout 2013.
