There’s lots to talk about this week on the GeekWire radio show and podcast, from emerging tech giants to high-tech smoke detectors, with some new revelations about Amazon and Jeff Bezos thrown into the mix.

We start with the story of Zulily, the daily deals site for moms and kids that took the first public steps toward a planned $100 million IPO this week. With more than $331 million in revenue last year, the Seattle company is bigger than Twitter, and it’s also more profitable than Groupon or LivingSocial, two of the giants of online deals.

Then we turn to Amazon, and the new book by Brad Stone that goes behind the scenes at the e-commerce and technology giant. An excerpt from the book made headlines this week, and we’ll have Stone on our show next week to talk about what he learned about Bezos and Amazon in the process of reporting the book.

Our guest in the studio is Susie Rantz, one of the organizers of GeekGirlCon, coming up next weekend, Oct. 19 and 20, in downtown Seattle. We talk about the growth of the event, now in its third year, and its goals of empowering and celebrating women and girls in geek culture and technology. Tickets for the event are available here.
