We’ve got a great guest on the GeekWire radio show this week: Adrian Hanauer, the general manager and co-owner of Seattle Sounders FC. We recorded this episode yesterday in the studio, talking about the intersection of tech and soccer, where things are headed for players and fans, and burning questions such as when we’re going to get better wireless in stadiums.

As a special bonus for the soccer fans in the audience, we also kept Hanauer around for this extended podcast version so that GeekWire’s resident soccer nut John Cook could ask extra questions.

John didn’t get the opportunity to ask directly about the possibility of the Sounders acquiring star American soccer player Clint Dempsey, as #DempseyWatch had yet to unfold on Twitter when we were in the studio.

However, when John asked about the upcoming Aug. 7 trade deadline, Hanauer did allude to some potential deals in the works.

“We are definitely working hard on one or two deals that could be big for the club,” he said.

soundersJohn asked if those deals could involve someone on the level of Seattle Sounders striker and Nigerian soccer superstar Obafemi Martins or even higher.

“It could very well be,” Hanauer said. “We might be dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on something if we were to get something big done in the next period of time,” he said, referring to the transfer window.

That exchange takes place starting at 47:53 in the audio player above.

And don’t forget: GeekWire Sounders Day is coming up on Sept. 4. You can grab your tickets and get more information here.

The show opens with our weekly news roundup, with news about Netflix’s new user profiles, the new WiFi partnership between Google and Starbucks, and why Microsoft will need to rename SkyDrive.
