We’re all about the tablets this week on the GeekWire radio show, as we dive into the newly unveiled Microsoft Surface 2 and Amazon Kindle Fire HDX.

prod_surface2_WebOur guest for the entire show is Wilson Rothman, the science and technology editor for nbcnews.com, who covered both the Amazon and Microsoft announcements this week.

We summarize the details of each new tablet, including Amazon’s unique “Mayday” customer support feature for the Kindle Fire HDX, and Microsoft’s efforts to improve the battery life and performance of its Surface lineup.

After that we get to listen to Jeff Bezos talk about one of his favorite aspects of the new Kindle tablets, the X-Ray for Music feature that shows lyrics scrolling in real time as any song is playing. If you’ve never heard the Amazon CEO’s famous laugh, this is your chance.

OK, so the show is not entirely about tablets. In the final segment, Wilson talks about his experience so far with the iPhone 5S, and answers the question of whether you should buy the new phone or just upgrade your existing device to iOS 7.

Name that Tech Tune: The answer to last week’s challenge is … Paul Allen.
