xboxoneWhen Microsoft announced that the Xbox One wouldn’t be compatible with older Xbox 360 games, the Internet exploded in a massive outcry. Ever since, people have been searching for a way to play their favorite 360 games on Microsoft’s new console — yes, there is technically a way to do it — but that may prove a dangerous errand.

An image has been going around the Internet with a set of instructions for enabling your Xbox One to play games from Microsoft’s last-generation console. Unfortunately, it’s complete bunk. At best, a user will realize that their console won’t play old games, and at worse, it could end up bricking their new Xbox One.

Here’s the image (DON’T DO THIS):

Whatever you do, don't do this.
Whatever you do, don’t do this.

Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hryb, better known as Major Nelson, said in a tweet that following the instructions could have dire consequences:

For people who want to play old 360 games on their new console, it requires you to plug the 360 into the Xbox One’s TV In port.

At this point, that seems like the only method that can work. Given the tone of Hryb’s tweet, any purported solution that involves the Xbox One as the sole device playing an old game should be viewed with a hefty dose of skepticism.
