Facebook is piloting a new mobile games publishing program that will help small game publishers expand the reach of their titles through Facebook’s social network.
The social network giant plans to help the studios with targeted promotion via its massive mobile channels, and will also provide analytics tools. In exchange, Facebook will receive a revenue share, though it did not provide any details on how much its cut would be.
“Facebook has already been helping with app discovery through products such as mobile app install ads,” Facebook’s Victor Medeiros wrote in a blog post. “However, there are many developers with awesome mobile games who don’t yet have the upfront resources for a paid strategy, and we want to help them find a path to success, too.”
Facebook is working with 10 studios off the bat that hail from places like Europe, Asia and the U.S.:
- 5th Planet’s RPG card battle game, Dawn of the Dragons
- Brainbow’s puzzle-packed adventure game, Dr. Newton: The Great Brain Adventure
- Certain Affinity’s pirate-themed strategy game, Age of Booty: Tactics
- Dragonplay’s social poker game, Live Hold’Em
- Gameloft’s medieval strategy/simulation game, Kingdoms & Lords
- Gamevil’s city building simulation game Train City
- KiwiGames’ quest-based exploration game, Shipwrecked
- Outplay Entertainment’s explore-and-battle fantasy game, Monster Legacy
- Space Ape’s multiplayer combat strategy game, Samurai Siege
- WeMade Entertainment’s endless-running game WINDrunner
In its most recent earnings report, Facebook said it had 819 million monthly active users on mobile products, a 51 percent year-over-year increase.
