Car-SliderWhile convenient and often cheaper than console titles, playing video games on smartphones or tablets is certainly limited because you often are not using a controller.

evolution2A new company out of Redmond, Wash., wants to change that. Evolution Controllers today debuted a Kickstarter in hopes of raising $30,000 for its Drone controller.

Evolution, which recently joined the Reactor incubator, has spent the last two years tinkering its controller and is now ready for production. The device’s buttons looks similar to an Xbox 360 controller, but it is a bit flatter and portable enough to fit in your pocket.

The rechargeable Drone features high precision joysticks with center click, 10 face buttons, two bumpers and two triggers. It is compatible with practically any device: Ouya, smartphones (not for iOS 7, though), tablets, laptops, etc.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of the Drone is the open source feature. Hackers have the ability to make the controller work with any device by writing their own custom firmware and uploading code to the Drone via micro USB.

Evolution, which currently employs four, was founded by Matthew Hefferon. The Kickstarter is already nearly one-third of the way toward its funding goal.
