Well, we can hardly imagine software pioneer Bill Gates riding atop a horse.

But the tech mogul just reportedly jumped on a sweet $8.7 million pad in Wellington, Florida — a small village known for its strong equestrian community.

According to Gossip Extra, Gates recently purchased the 7,234-square foot mansion in part because his teenage daughter is an accomplished horse rider.

Wellington holds the largest horse show in the world from January to March, a top destination for those who compete in show jumping, dressage, and polo. Wikipedia notes that Wellington boasts more than forty weeks of equestrian competitions per year.

gates-kitchenHow does the new Florida pad compare to Gates’ massive mansion in the Medina suburb of Seattle?

Well, at about 50,000 square feet, the Seattle area home is nearly seven times bigger.

But the Florida residence, which Gates reportedly previously rented and purchased in April through a trustee at the K&L Gates law firm, does have a few things going for it.

The weather. The equestrian season in Wellington runs during some of the worst weather in Seattle. So, could we see Gates hanging in Florida some more during the nasty winter months?
