Opstera co-founder Paddy Srinivasan

Avanade is making another buy in the Seattle startup community, gobbling up cloud software startup Opstera in a deal of undisclosed size.

The acquisition comes just 13 months after former Microsofties Paddy Srinivasan and Ranjith Ramakrishnan founded the cloud management upstart — a hot area in which Seattle’s Opscode and Portland’s Puppet Labs have each raised big investment rounds. (Interestingly former Avanade boss Mitch Hill was named CEO of Opscode in 2011).

“Operations management of Software-as-a-Service and other cloud applications is becoming critical with the proliferation of cloud platforms,” said Srinivasan. “We have invested several years in developing a unique, proprietary technology that helps companies efficiently monitor and manage their applications running on public cloud platforms.”

The acquisition follows Avanade’s purchase last November of the 200-person Seattle company Azaleos. It also marks the second acquisition for Srinivasan, Ramakrishnan and crew in the past two years, following the sale of Cumulux to Aditi in 2011.

We featured Opstera in our a Startup Spotlight feature last year, with Srinivasan saying at the time that the startup’s goal was to help customers unlock the “black box of cloud computing.” As a result of the acquisition, Srinivasan and Ramakrishnan will join Avanade.
