appleneonApple is already considered the biggest company on the planet in terms of market value — clocking in at $433 billion despite a 13 percent stock slide so far this year. But the maker of iPads and iPhones also is surging up the charts when it comes to the Fortune 500, which ranks corporations by annual revenues.

Apple moved from 17th place last year to No. 6 on the prestigious list — the only tech company to crack the top 10. It recorded annual revenue of $156 billion. Wal-Mart led the way with revenue of $469.2 billion, followed by Exxon Mobil ($449.9 billion); Chevron ($239 billion); and Phillips 66 ($169.6 billion).

Wal-Mart rival Amazon.com is climbing the charts too. It ranked 49th with annual revenue of $61.1 billion, just behind Comcast, Wellpoint and Pfizer.

Microsoft ranked 35th with revenues of $73.7 billion, but it was also just as profitable as No. 1 Wal-Mart (Both had annual profits of $16 billion). Apple, on the other hand, was the second most profitable company on the list with annual profits of $41.7 billion behind Exxon Mobil’s profits of $44.8 billion.
