alphaThings are looking pretty good for Amazon’s first original online video offering.

The company announced today that Alpha House, its new comedy about four Republican senators all living in a house in Washington, D.C., was the most watched show on Amazon over the weekend. The company released the first three episodes of the new show, which was created by Doonesbury writer Gary Trudeau, on Friday morning.

It’s a part of the company’s effort to compete with Netflix in the streaming video space, and judging from this weekend’s numbers, things seem to be going well.

It’s a good lead-in to Amazon’s second new comedy, Betas, which is slated to launch its first three episodes on Friday. A new episode of Alpha House will also be launching to Amazon Prime subscribers on Friday, and both shows will be releasing new episodes every Friday after that.
