amazonstudios-featuredIt was a big weekend for Amazon’s push into original television programming. Amazon Studios served up a grand total of 14 television pilots via the Amazon Instant Video service, to see which received the strongest responses from viewers.

The engagement from viewers was strong, and the feedback was mostly positive, according to the company. Amazon says the eight comedies and six children’s television pilots were the most-watched television shows on the Instant Video service this weekend, with 80% of the ratings coming in at 4 and 5 stars.

The company touted customer reviews including one saying that “Alpha House” — a comedy starring John Goodman, about a group of Senators living in the same house — “could pass as a show on HBO.”

Amazon says it will take the broad feedback into account as it decides which shows to produce as series.

Netflix, Hulu and Amazon are all producing their own original shows, following the models of HBO and Showtime, in an effort to differentiate their streaming services.
