kindlefirehd269Amazon today slashed its Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ prices and also announced the tablet’s availability in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.

Due to the expansion abroad, Amazon says that “it is able to lower the price of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ in the U.S.” The Seattle online giant reduced the wi-fi version of its largest tablet by $30 down to $269 and reduced the 4G version to $399, which is $100 down from the previous price of $499.

“As we expand Kindle Fire HD 8.9” to Europe and Japan, we’ve been able to increase our production volumes and decrease our costs,” said Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle, in a press release. “Across our business at Amazon, whenever we are able to create cost efficiencies like this, we want to pass the savings along to our customers.”
