tonychor“It’s become painfully clear that my bid to become the new CEO of Microsoft will not be successful, so today is my last day at Microsoft.”

That’s the very tongue-in-cheek reasoning offered by Tony Chor, a 23-year veteran of Microsoft who is (for real) leaving to join Amazon as director of the online retailer’s product details page. A longtime Internet Explorer team member, he was most recently a group program manager for Microsoft Bing.

The real reason he’s leaving: “I’ve never worked anywhere else as a fulltime employee,” he writes. “I realized I would regret not ever having a different perspective.”

Via Twitter, Chor tells me that it was “definitely the hardest decision of my life. Microsoft is awesome, and I’ll always love it. It was just time.”

On his blog, he goes on to give a charming and funny timeline of “highlights” from his Microsoft career, including an incident involving Bill Gates and a Big Mac.
