kindlecountdown.jpgAmazon today introduced a new way for customers to find dirt cheap e-books with Kindle Countdown Deals.

The new program provides readers with limited time discounts on Kindle-exclusive books. A small widget on the product page tells readers how much time is left on the countdown deal, and how much the price will increase.

Right now, it looks like there are 77 books in the “Kindle Countdown Deals” store. Most of them are listed at $0.99 or $1.99, with a price hike of anywhere from $0.99 to $2.99 less than two days from now.

Any publisher with a book exclusive to the Kindle store can participate. Publishers can control how long a book is discounted (one hour-to-seven days) and level of discount (at least $1 off regular price).
