Extended Results Inc., a business-intelligence technology company just down the road from Microsoft, says it has seen more than 2,500 downloads of its PushBI app since launching on Windows 8. No, it’s not exactly Instagram, but that’s the point, says the company’s CEO, Patrick Husting.

“Businesses pay for our solution because of the insights and productivity it brings to their businesses. Instagram has to give it away for free,” writes Husting in a post this morning after blogger Robert Scoble made the comparison to Instagram and questioned whether the 2,500 downloads reported by Husting last week were all that significant.

The PushBI app, available for Windows 8 and other platforms, is free to download and try, but Extended Results is an enterprise technology provider, and the full functionality requires a paid software licensing agreement.

Extended Results is a longtime Microsoft partner that works with the company on a variety of projects.

“We have seen an extra 15 to 20 new business leads a week because of Windows 8,” wrote Husting in an earlier post detailing the numbers. “We are seeing tremendous business traffic with Windows 8 that is for sure.  My sales team is very happy. Thank you Microsoft and the Windows 8 team!”
