Washington’s unemployment rate fell to 5.8 percent last month, the lowest mark in six years.
The state’s Employment Security Department today announced that job growth in Washington grew in June by 9,100 jobs.
“After a hiring lull in May, Washington employers really picked up the pace in June,” Paul Turek, an Employment Security labor economist. “The state’s economy is picking up momentum and the near term job outlook is good.”
Industry sectors that saw the biggest employment gains were education and health services, followed up retail trade; leisure and hospitality; and wholesale trade. The information category, where a number of tech jobs get classified, saw gains of 700 jobs in June.
The national unemployment rate, meanwhile, dropped by 0.2 percent to 6.1 percent and has fallen by 1.4 percent in the last year. The unemployment rate in Seattle also dropped by 0.2 percent last month.
