John Hodgman

Without even saying a word, John Hodgman had the crowd laughing at the annual Seattle Interactive Conference this morning.

Speaking on a panel with four other writer/musician/comedians, Hodgman poked fun at Seattleites and appeared in a black waterproof jacket with a brown messenger bag. He was, however, missing a cup of Starbucks coffee.

Hodgman, a Daily Show regular also known as the PC guy, kept the crowd of 200 or so laughing throughout the talk, which featured musician Jonathan Coulton, writers Merlin Mann and Scott Simpson, as well as moderator John Roderick, although Hodgman tried to dethrone Roderick as moderator numerous times.

The 50-minute talk centered on how artists handle promoting their brand and content through the various social media channels today. Everyone agreed that authentic connections — not just spamming concert times or purchasing links — are important to consider.

Hear more from the talk and see some of Hodgman’s shenanigans in the video above.

Team GeekWire is at SIC today and tomorrow and we’ll have more updates from the annual event.
