Who knew that a video of a cheesy dance routine from a developer’s conference in Norway promoting Microsoft’s Windows Azure would grab so much attention. But that video, which we described as “raunchy” and GeekWire readers called “inappropriate”  and “weird,” led the charts for the month of June. The post set off an active discussion, touching on everything from women in tech to Europeans’ views of Americans.

Wow. We’ve certainly never seen anything quite like it before on GeekWire.

A scene from the now infamous dance routine.

Of course, there was more going on than bizarre videos from Norway. June was a busy month, with Microsoft unveiling its Surface tablet at an event in LA and Google countering a few days later with the launch of the Nexus 7.

On the startup front, Madrona Venture Group raised a $300 million venture capital fund — the biggest in the firm’s history — and two others — Divergent Ventures and the W Fund — reeled in cash. Meanwhile, domain name operator Donuts Inc. raised more than $100 million and sales tax software provider Avalara raised $20 million in fresh capital.

Here’s a look back at the top stories for the month of June. Thanks again to everyone for tuning in to GeekWire.
