T-Mobile USA says it will start offering the Square mobile credit-card reader in selected stores as part of an effort to court small business customers. The company says it’s the first wireless carrier to stock the Square device.

Apple, Best Buy, Radio Shack and other retailers also offer the the Square device. The device, which plugs into the audio jack of phones including Android devices and iPhones, generally sells for around $10 at retail, with the price refunded in the form of a credit. Square offers new merchant customers a free device with signup, and takes a 2.75 percent cut of credit card transactions.

Square’s competitors include Redmond-based Innerfence.
