Shah and Chaney

Varolii has named Sunil Shah as vice president of engineering and Patrick Chaney as vice president of professional services. Shah is an Expedia veteran who most recently served as the vice president of engineering at DataSphere Technologies. He previously worked in engineering executive roles at TravelPost, a hotel review site, and Disney Interactive Media Group.

At Expedia, where he spent 11 years, Shah oversaw the first version of the company’s corporate travel product. Shah replaces the retiring Steve Weick.

“I look forward to bringing my design creativity and process experience to a proven cloud-based platform for engaging digital consumers,” said Shah.

Also joining the Varolii team is Chaney who most recently served as vice president of professional and managed services at QPass, a division of Amdocs. He previously worked at Portal Software, Cambridge Technology Partners and Boeing.

Varolii’s communications technology helps banks, health care providers and utilities send automated text messages, emails or phone calls to customers, with the application hosting more than four million interactions each day.

NanoString Technologies, a heavily-funded developer of life science tools used in translational research, has named James Johnson as CFO. As a result of the appointment, current CFO Wayne Burns will move to the new position of senior vice president of operations and administration. “Jim’s expertise will be invaluable to us as we advance on our strategy to expand our portfolio of solutions for the life science research community and bring novel cancer diagnostics to market,” said NanoString CEO Brad Gray. Johnson most recently served as CFO of Relypsa, a privately-held biopharmaceutical company. Before that, he spent nearly ten years at ZymoGenetics as executive vice president, CFO and treasurer. The University of Washington grad also is the former CFO of Targeted Genetics, and served as vice president of finance at Immunex Corporation.

Craig Baughn

Globys, a business intelligence company that spun out of VeriSign, has named Craig Baughn to the position of Vice President of Client Delivery. Baughn previously served as vice president of global hosting operations at Concur, and before that served as vice president of enterprise services for Safeco insurance where he led a team of 300 IT professionals.  He holds a degree in Quantitative Method from the University of Washington.

Yammer CEO David Sacks has joined the advisory board of Twist, a San Francisco maker of a mobile tracking and location sharing appthat competes with Seattle’s Glympse. “Twist is an app I use every day because it saves valuable time – the company is on track to solve this problem in numerous markets; ending the stresses of being late, and reducing the financial costs associated with waiting,” said Sacks, who sold his company to Microsoft for $1.2 billion in July.

EveryMove, a Seattle startup which is developing a rewards program to make people healthier, has named Andrea Rogers as director of marketing. Rogers spent nearly a decade at Alaska Airlines before moving on to Seattle area startupsOff & Away and consulting with companies such as Decide and Rhapsody. Founded by Russell Benaroya and Marcelo Calbucci, EveryMove is planning to launch its service later this month.

Business consulting firm Jerome & Associates is now Jerome, Bruhn & Associates with the addition of Karen Bruhn. Founder John Jerome previously co-founded the technology company ImageX and Parallel Communications.
