SEOMOz CEO Rand Fishkin

Online marketing is an ever-changing, fast-moving industry with no shortage of information available for those looking to master things such as SEO, Twitter and Google+.

But there’s so much information flowing these days that it can be tough to sort the wheat from the chaff.

SEOMoz CEO Rand Fishkin and HubSpot founder Dharmesh Shah are setting out to change that with the launch of Inbound.org, a new site that Fishkin describes as a “Hacker News for marketers.”

Hacker News, as many of you may know, is a wildly popular technology news aggregator which pulls in information from a variety of sources and then relies on the community to rank which stories are the most important.

Inbound.org, which Fishkin says is a fun project unaffiliated with SEOMoz and Hubspot, works in much the same fashion.

“We believe there’s a ton of great marketing news and strategy content posted to the web each day that goes unread and under-appreciated,” notes the Seattle entrepreneur and SEO whiz. “Inbound.org exists to help give visibility to great work in the sphere and provide web marketers with a community for sharing and discussion.”

Fishkin tells us that there’s no monetization plan for the site, though they’ve already been approached by one potential sponsor.

“Over time we hope that Inbound.org helps surface great marketing content — but it helps connect the community through that content,” adds Shah. “It’s a great way for marketers to build credibility and connect to their peers.”

Shah is the co-founder and CTO of HubSpot, a Cambridge, Massachusetts company that has raised over $60 million in venture capital. He’s also the co-author of “Inbound Marketing: Get Found Using Google, Social Media and Blogs.”
