Technology entrepreneur Blake Krikorian, best known for co-founding Slingbox maker Sling Media, has left the Amazon board abruptly, after a little more than a year in the role.
An Amazon spokesman tells GeekWire: “He has decided to resign because he has sold his company and is taking a position at the acquiring company. ”
Krikorian’s exit comes a week after the Wall Street Journal reported that his home automation startup, id8 Group R2 Studios Inc., was in talks for a potential acquisition by companies including Microsoft, Google and Apple — all of them Amazon competitors.
No word yet on which company made the acquisition; there doesn’t appear to have been an announcement yet, but we’re checking. Stay tuned for updates.
Amazon said this afternoon in its filing with the SEC: “On December 26, 2012, Blake Krikorian informed Amazon.com, Inc. that he was resigning from the Board of Directors effective immediately.”
Krikorian’s departure leaves the company with nine board members. The Amazon spokesman says, “We’re pleased with the current makeup of our board. In the future, we could of course add one or more directors.”
Sling Media was acquired by EchoStar in 2007, and Krikorian served as Sling’s CEO until January 2009, when he shifted to his new startup. He joined the Amazon board in September 2011.
