If caffeine is the fuel of the startup culture, these places are the gas stations.

But good coffee shops are much more than that, of course. They’re an important “third place” away from home and work, where people can meet up and plug in — for hours at a time, in some cases. (Yeah, we’re looking at you, the one sitting over there with your laptop hogging the seat next to the window for the past two hours.)

Today’s featured category in the Seattle 2.0 Startup Awards celebrates the role of these places in the startup world: Geekiest Coffee Shop. Based on the voting so far, it’s an extremely tight race, with readers’ loyalties split evenly among some of the region’s most popular java joints.

This is one of more than a dozen categories in this year’s Seattle 2.0 Awards, presented by GeekWire. We’ll be featuring one category a day leading up to the big awards bash May 3 at the Experience Music Project. Public voting began this week after finalists were chosen by our judges from hundreds of community nominations.

Vote below for Geekiest Coffee Shop, sponsored by Startup Weekend.

Watch for more featured categories in the days ahead. To cast your entire ballot now, see all of the Seattle 2.0 Startup Awards categories here. Looking forward to seeing all of you on May 3, when the winners will be revealed.
