Make no doubt about it, mobile advertising is here to stay. The latest report from the Interactive Advertising Bureau showed that mobile advertising topped $1.2 billion during the first half of 2012, nearly double the amount spent during the same period last year.

Overall Internet advertising is on the rise

“The tremendous growth of mobile advertising revenue over the past year is an indication of the importance of location to advertisers and mobility to consumers,” said David Silverman, a partner at PwC US, who worked on the study. “Bringing the power of the internet to mobile devices has opened up a world of possibilities to both consumers and marketers.”

Search-related advertising still made up the biggest chunk of online advertising spend at $8.1 billion, up 19 percent from $6.8 billion for the first half of 2011.

In total, online advertising for the first half of the year came in at $17 billion, continuing an upward climb at the expense of traditional advertising outlets.
