Decide.coms's Ian Ma easily swept GeekWire's John Cook

Silicon Valley Bank’s Minh Le has been engaged in private training sessions at the Washington Table Tennis Center. Madrona Venture Group’s Greg Gottesman has been challenging his startup CEOs to ping-pong duels. And, for me, I’ve started to make the rounds at Seattle area tech companies where I’ve dusted off the ping-pong skills I learned growing up in my Ohio basement.

If it’s not obvious, we’re getting excited for the big GeekWire Summer Bash and Ping Pong/Foosball tournament, taking place June 21st at the Showbox Sodo in Seattle.

Slots for the tournament are filling fast, and with early-bird pricing ending today, we’re expecting a huge turnout. [Get your tickets here]

However, some have been asking us what bracket they should enter, expert or intermediate. To give you a clue, below you’ll see a point from my match earlier this week against Ian Ma of Decide.com.

Ma easily beat me, sweeping all three matches. So, here’s what I’d say as a rule of thumb: Ma is an expert, and I — even though I was the runner-up in my college tournament — would be an intermediate. Looking forward to seeing everyone on June 21st for some great food, fun and geeky sports action.

And don’t forget the early-bird rates end today, so don’t snooze.

UPDATE: Since we had some folks wonder about the skill levels, here’s the full match. The action starts around 2:30. What do you think? Where do we rank?
