We love hearing about Geeks like these…guys who just think up a creative project and go. This one resulted in a marriage proposal alongside a little space exploration, a strange yet delightful combination indeed.

Inspired by the 50-year anniversary of John Glenn’s orbit of the earth, these three gents who work in Seattle’s video industry, Jason Hakala, Michael Gaston and Joanny Causse, decided to launch a weather balloon with an iPhone attached that was playing a video collage of quotes and images inspired by space exploration. The views they captured are impressive to be sure — the balloon made it approximately 80-90,000 feet up — but what may be even more impressive? While the balloon eventually popped, the iPhone came out of the trip in fine working form.

The video collage also included Hakala’s proposal to his girlfriend, which as they say, “may be the first marriage proposal from space.”

They’ve posted neat videos of both the finished product and the background to creating the project, right down to the marriage proposal.

Live long and prosper, you guys. Live long and prosper.
