Some of the guests we bring in to the GeekWire radio show and podcast have been known to cause a stir when they arrive at the studio. But nothing compares to the reception given to Caramel, the 4-pound Pomeranian who is the “Chief Rover” at dog-sitting matchmaking service Rover.com. Several KIRO-FM staffers couldn’t help but come in to meet Caramel before the show.

Our other guest is Caramel’s owner, Aaron Easterly, the CEO of Rover, who explains how the service works, and how it fits into the larger trend of online matchmaking for things that would otherwise go unused or underutilized. Plus, we get to hear the story of what happened when John’s dog Henry found the chicken coop at his Rover.com sitter’s house.

That discussion starts at 12:00, following our news roundup, including a discussion of the Windows 8 and Microsoft Surface launches on Friday, and the iPad Mini’s unveiling earlier in the week.

We also discuss two of the big stories of the week involving unmanned aerial vehicles: the controversial Seattle police drones, and the attention-grabbing Boeing CHAMP missile.

App of the Week: Circa News for iPhone and iPad.

Name that Tech Tune: See the answer and winners from last week’s contest.
