We’ve got a lot to talk about on this week’s GeekWire radio show and podcast, starting with our thoughts on the trends at this week’s Casual Connect video game conference in Seattle.

The news from the show included the unveiling of a new $7.99/month game service from Seattle-based Big Fish Games — part of the trend toward cloud-based gaming on a wide variety of devices. The service includes the ability to pause a game on one device and pick it up again at the same point on another, but we wonder how many people will actually take advantage of that capability.

A study by PopCap reveals where we’re playing games these days, and how — although we suspect that the respondents weren’t being entirely truthful, because the bathroom didn’t show up on the list of locations. Nintendo’s rough quarter illustrates how our habits are changing, as many people shift away from traditional game consoles to game on tablets and smartphones.

Meanwhile, mobile phone service Solavei is generating lots of interest, positive and negative, with its new service that offers rewards for signing up friends — promising to reduce your monthly bill or even paying you to use the service, if you sign up enough people. It’s a multi-level marketing program, and we talk about some of the commentary that is surrounding the unveiling of the service.

In Olympics news, Seattle startups Cheezburger and BuddyTV are among the companies offering new features and online services related to the games.

Our guest in the studio is David Geller, the CEO of EyeJot, a cloud-based service for sending and receiving video messages. The company recently rolled out a new feature called Vcard, virtual business cards that include video messages. The EyeJot iPhone app is available here.

Guided by a “mind map”, we talk with David about his experiences so far with Mountain Lion, the latest version of Mac OS X, rolled out this past week as a $19.99 upgrade for Mac users. We also get his thoughts on Microsoft’s Surface tablet computer and the state of the Seattle startup world.

App of the Week: Turn-by-turn navigation app Waze for iPhone and Android.
