Dressed in a black tuxedo, Paul Allen sat on stage in front of 800 people Wednesday night in Huntsville, Alabama and shared personal insight on a variety of questions. But his words weren’t about new software, cloud computing or the Surface.
Rather, the talk focused on two of the billionaire’s other passions: space and sports.
This is the new chapter for the life of Paul Allen, one that’s taken the billionaire from the computing world into several completely unrelated – but still incredibly interesting – ventures.
Allen spoke at the 24th annual Dr. Wernher von Braun Memorial Dinner sponsored by the Huntsville chapter of the National Space Club. He touched on the developments with his space company Stratolaunch, funding of brain-mapping research at the Allen Institute for Brain Research in Seattle and his love for sports.
“It’s a time of transition,” said Allen of investing in space. “Anytime the guard is changing, it’s a time of great challenges and great opportunities.”
Allen was the keynote at Wednesday’s dinner, which honors individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the understanding and exploration of space.
