It seemed like such a miniscule amount when Mike Myers asked for “one million dollars” as Dr. Evil. But, seriously, a million is a lot of coin. And the Oatmeal, a.k.a. Seattle online cartoonist Matt Inman, has made more than a cool million for his “Let’s Build a Goddamn Tesla Museum” campaign.

It all kicked off last week (we wrote about it here), and we had no doubt that the Oatmeal would meet and surpass its $850,000 matching goal for a nonprofit to buy and renovate Nikola Tesla’s former laboratory, called Wardenclyffe and located in Shoreham, N.Y., and turn it into a museum.

As of now, there’s 36 days left to the campaign, which means that there’s still time for even more science-lovin’ folks to fund the Tesla project. Despite the fact that the Oatmeal has met and exceeded the initial goal, there’s still a lot to be done, as the campaign site says:

“Even if we raise the full amount and end up with $1.7 million, this isn’t enough to build an actual museum / science center. But it will effectively put the property into the right hands so it can eventually be renovated into something fitting for one of the greatest inventors of our time.”

So, more money, better Tesla Museum. Learn more about the campaign at the Oatmeal.
