The Oatmeal, aka Matt Inman, tested his Internet rainmaking prowess just a bit ago with his hilarious and awesome Operation BearLove Good, Cancer Bad campaign against Funny Junk, raising more than $200,000  and snapping a nice “FU” pic to boot. Now, he’s set on helping to create a Tesla Museum.

No, not Tesla the band.

He wants to save the laboratory site of inventor and science geek Nikola Tesla.

You can read The Oatmeal’s take on the wondrous inventions of Tesla — and why Thomas Edison was a douchebag — here.

Apparently, Tesla’s old laboratory is up for grabs in New York State, and a nonprofit wants to create a Tesla Museum. The state has pledged to match half, or $850,000, of the $1.7 million needed to preserve and renovate the space and protect it forever. And the Oatmeal wants to help the nonprofit raise the rest.

Of course, as in Tesla’s lifetime, there are evil, money-grubbing entities about, as in other interested parties who want to use the land for “retail” space.

Do we need more Costcos*? We think not.

Vote Tesla with your dollars. You can donate here. As of today, the Oatmeal has already raised more than $450,000 with 44 days to go in the campaign.

Disclaimer: *It may or may not be a Costco. We have have no idea, but it sounded nice. And Costco is kind of the symbol of American over-consumption, don’t you think?
