Microsoft is more active than any other company in asking Google to remove from its index websites that infringe on the Redmond company’s copyrights, according to a new Google report.

New stats from the search giant show that Microsoft and its agents requested the removal of more than 536,000 URLs from Google’s Index in the past month, eclipsing No. 2 NBCUniversal at 165,662 requests. The Recording Industry Association of America paled in comparison, requesting the removal of a mere 31,922 URLs.

A Microsoft spokesman tells the Associated Press, “Each month, Microsoft requests the removal of links to web pages that infringe Microsoft’s copyrights so that customers are not deceived into purchasing or downloading counterfeit software.”

TechDirt notes that some of the same URLs are still indexed by Microsoft’s own Bing search engine.
