Microsoft this morning released a list of locations in the U.S. and Canada where it will be opening “popup” stores for the holiday season — the industry term for spaces that temporarily extend a retailer’s reach without the investment of building a permanent store.

The locations will be part of the company’s effort to market Windows 8 and related hardware when the new operating system launches in October. The company isn’t saying whether they will sell the Microsoft Surface tablet, and it hasn’t yet given specific dates for the openings.
