Microsoft is making its HealthVault medical data repository more mobile with the release of a new app for iPhone and iPad, expanding beyond its existing Windows Phone app.

The app, available here, lets users access and store their personal medical and insurance info using a password-protected account. Existing iOS apps work in conjunction with HealthVault, including iTriageCareCoachWhatsmym3Health Nexxus, and bant, but this is the first time that Microsoft has released a native HealthVault app for Apple’s mobile platform.

Microsoft says the various apps will be able to access the same data in the HealthVault repository, eliminating the need to enter personal medical history and other information multiple times for each app. The iPhone/iPad app is limited to users in the U.S. for now, but Microsoft says it plans to expand the availability worldwide.

There’s no Android app, yet, but Microsoft said back in May that it was working on one.
