Jumala's new game creation tool allows users to insert new scenes such as this Pirate Island

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard from Blade Games World, the Bellevue startup that turns game players into game creators via Jumala. But the company is coming on to the scene this week with a set of new features that allows users of the service to add customizable items such as new visual effects and a reward system, so gamers can now “gamify” their games.

“With Jumala, we want players of all skill levels to have fun as they imagine, build, and play their own ever-changing 3D games,” said Virl Hill, CEO of Blade Games World. “While other games may offer an option to design one level or a character, in Jumala the entire experience is created by the player.

The new version — available for Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP — allows game players/designers to drop in new scenes such as spooky marshes or an alien galaxies. As part of the new release, user can also reshape the terrain, swap out game objects, or change lighting and backgrounds.

“We hope to democratize gaming,” Hill, a former RealNetworks and Disney staffer, told us last year. “Which in English really means open up game creation and game modification to anybody who can use a mouse.”
