It’s launch day for the iPad mini, and there’s good news for anyone hoping to score one: The device was still available for purchase at the Apple Store in Seattle as of a short time ago. Of course, that’s not necessarily a good thing for Apple, which is accustomed to seeing much larger demand for its new devices.

There was a line for the iPad mini at the Apple Store at Seattle’s University Village this morning, but it was short enough to be gone by the time GeekWire stopped by less than an hour after the store opened. Typically the lines for Apple launches wrap around the building and take much longer to disappear.

Across Lake Washington at the Bellevue Square store, Apple has sold out of the white iPad minis but still had black models available as of 10:30 a.m.

CNN reports that there were similar scenes around the world, as the lines for the iPad mini didn’t live up to those for most Apple launches.

At 7.9 inches diagonal, the iPad Mini starts at $329 for the 16GB version with WiFi. Amazon this past weekend used its home page to jab at the iPad mini with a side-by-side comparison to the 7-inch, $199 Kindle Fire HD.
