Film and TV buffs can now enjoy more specialized features with their IMDb apps. The Amazon.com unit is adding new functions to its Movies and TV apps.

The popular free IMDb apps, now downloaded more than 40 million times for iOS and Android, will feature “highly anticipated discovery, personalization and social features…including message boards, check-ins, similarities, film locations and soundtracks.” The company reports that it has attracted more than 150 million visits to its mobile website and apps per month for the last five months.

“Given that IMDb.com’s message boards generate more than 2.5 billion page views annually, it’s no surprise that mobile-optimized message boards were our No. 1 customer request,” says IMDb’s founder and chief executive Col Needham.

Mobile-optimized message boards, just in time for the throngs of pedestrian reviews on ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ to be released en masse next week.
