Hulu is rolling out a new interface for its Hulu Plus subscription service on the PlayStation 3 this week — a preview of changes to come for Hulu Plus on other platforms in the future.

The update is a product of the company’s Seattle engineering office, which focuses on Hulu Plus for the living room. The Los Angeles-based media company is one of several high-profile tech companies from California that have opened offices in our region to better tap into the pool of engineers.

The changes are designed to make the interface easier to navigate, including larger artwork, a new search experience, and new “scrolling trays” for browsing left and right among individual rows of content without changing the larger context of the screen.

The Hulu Plus service runs $7.99/month. The premium service first launched in the U.S. two years ago on the PS3 and has expanded to Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Apple TV, among other devices.
