Decide's pong champ easily swept GeekWire's John Cook

I’ve been making the rounds to various tech companies over the past few weeks, not to dig up stories. But for a more important reason: Ping Pong.

That’s right. In anticipation of GeekWire’s Summer Bash on June 21, I’ve been traveling to the various corners of the Seattle tech community to take on the best-and-brightest pongers around. Those of you who’ve watched some of the action on our Facebook page may know that I haven’t fared too well. (losing key matches against Decide.com’s Ian Ma and Silicon Valley Bank’s Minh Le).

I’ll mark the losses up to the home court advantage offered to my opponents. But now the tables are turning. We’re hosting an open house and ping-pong warm-up this Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m at GeekWire’s worldwide headquarters in Ballard. We’ll have some munchies, pizza and beer, and a kick-ass ping-pong table provided by our wonderful office mates at Buuteeq. (Let us know if you’ve got a foosball table as we’d love to get that in the mix too).

If you need a little practice before June 21 or just want to conclude the work week with some fellow geeks, stop on by anytime after 4 p.m to see where the GeekWire sausage gets made. (No need to RSVP).

Location: 1455 NW Leary Way. (On the north end of the Ballard Bridge in the old PATH building directly north of Mike’s Chili and Trader Joe’s. We’re on the first floor in Buuteeq’s office).

Time: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Parking: Free parking on the street and in the big lot on the south portion of the building.

Also, here’s a friendly reminder to get your tickets today for the Summer Bash and Ping Pong/Foosball tournament, taking place June 21 at the Showbox Sodo in Seattle. We’ve got just a few slots left in the expert and intermediate divisions of ping pong tournament, and I expect those to sell out before Friday. Foosball — another classic tech company sport — also is filling up fast too with some masters of the classic game set to strut their stuff. Details and tickets here.

Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store. Think you can beat me, stop on by Friday or we’ll see everyone on June 21.
