This is pretty funny stuff, and speaks to the almost mythical status that consumers place on Apple’s design. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s crew hit the streets on Wednesday and asked a bunch of folks passing by what they think of the new iPhone 5.

Now, here’s the gotcha moment: The iPhone 5 is not yet publicly available (it ships Sept. 21), so in reality people were looking at the iPhone 4S.

You can only imagine the reaction. Enjoy!

Meanwhile, make sure to cast your ballot in GeekWire’s iPhone 5 poll.

Proving one again that perception equals reality, at least when it comes to marketing products to consumers.

Proves Apple trumps Microsoft’s marketing department once again. Keep hiring over-educated MBAs Microsoft with crap experience… it will just keep failing for you.
