Matt Hulett

Yapta has named GameHouse president Matt Hulett to the board, part of an ongoing transformation of the Seattle startup from a consumer travel company to one focused on business-to-business services. Hulett has very specific experience in that arena, formerly serving as president of Expedia Corporate Travel.

“The opportunity for Yapta to penetrate the corporate travel space is ripe as travel managers and procurement executives are finding it increasingly difficult to reduce travel spend in environments that are already heavily optimized,” Hulett said. “Yapta can help these companies find additional savings at absolutely no cost, enabling them to squeeze even more out of their travel budgets.”

The appointment comes a little more than a month after Yapta co-founder and CEO Tom Romary stepped down, taking a new job as senior vice president of consumer services at Rearden Commerce in Silicon Valley. The company named Seattle tech veteran Ken Myer as interim CEO after Romary’s departure.

Last year, Yapta raised $5 million from Redmond travel and entertainment and expense management software company Concur Technologies, bringing total funding to $13.8 million. Yapta’s service historically has allowed users to track airfare fluctuations, and request a refund from the airlines if prices go up on previously purchased tickets.

Hulett previously served as chairman and CEO of AdXpose and was part of the founding team at AtomFilms.
