We know Seattle is a serious food and drink town — and we have the apps for that.
Now food-geek fans of the late, great Julia Child can download a new app developed by Seattle-based Smashing Ideas aptly titled Mastering the Art of French Cooking: Selected Recipes. Developed with Random House Digital, it’s available now in the App Store for $2.99 throughout the end of August in celebration of Child’s 100th birthday, Aug. 15. A Nook version is available, too.
The Child app features 32 recipes from volume one of her classic cookbook, and also includes “careful explanations of technique that make the difference between ordinary home cooking and putting together a ravishing French meal.” Additionally, the app features grocery lists and substitution guides, 30 clips from Child’s “The Way to Cook” video series, the ability to share on Facebook and more.
The Child app has already been featured as new and noteworthy and the top paid Food & Drink app at the App Store, according to Smashing Ideas. It joins a roster of other notable food startups and sites started in the Emerald City, including ones from Urbanspoon, BigOven, Foodista and RecipeZaar, which is now Food.com.
And a food roundup wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Allrecipes.com. The Seattle-based foodie staple is celebrating a major milestone this week — its 15th anniversary of bringing yummy delights to you via the Internets. The site reports that it’s had more than 15 billion recipes viewed and 14 million app downloads, and has been used by more than 25 million cooks since it launched in 1997.
To help celebrate their 15th anniversary of deliciousness, Allrecipes has launched a social campaign called #RecipeForHappiness, and they’re offering the Dinner Spinner Pro iPhone App for 99 cents through Aug. 5. And you can check out the RecipeforHappiness movement in their YouTube video, if you want to bask in some warm and fuzzy today.
