Facebook employees are taking part in a hackathon today at the company’s Seattle offices, the social network’s largest engineering outpost outside of its Menlo Park headquarters — and they’ve got a very unique piece of art to inspire their creative thinking.

It’s a hot tub, customized in spray paint by the renowned artist “Weirdo,” better known as Seattle’s Jeff Jacobson. The hot tub has been installed in Facebook’s new offices near the top of one of the Metropolitan Park buildings next to Interstate 5.

The view across Lake Union (below) is great, but come on guys, time to ditch the cushions and fill that thing up with some water!

Facebook is approaching 100 employees at its Seattle office, competing with the likes of Microsoft, Amazon and Google and countless startups for the region’s top engineers.

Aiming to give itself more room for growth, Facebook moved to the new office this spring from its initial location near Seattle’s Pike Place Market. The hackathon, lasting throughout the day, continues a Facebook tradition, with part of the goal being to come up with creative ideas for the new space.

Update: Turns out they can’t fill the hot tub (and actually had to drill a hole in it) because the landlord didn’t want that much water in one place, according to our partners at KING 5 News, who were there for the hackathon. Tune in to the evening newscast tonight for a report from the event, and we’ll post their coverage when it’s available.

Update II: Here’s the KING 5 story by reporter Chris Daniels …
