Avvo, the online question and answer service for lawyers and doctors, is expanding its lineup of products with the addition of a new dentist directory and Q&A site. Adding the dental profession is a natural one for Avvo, which refocused efforts last September as a Q&A site.

In a blog post, Avvo CEO Mark Britton said that with the launch they are providing “a 360 degree approach to total wellness” since oral health is associated with other ailments.

“This clear link between oral and overall health creates new opportunities for dentists and physicians to work together to help improve the health of their patients,” said Britton. “By bringing together experts across a broad range of medical disciplines, Avvo provides better information and an even more valuable experience for our customers.”

The dentist directory is starting with a phased approach, with the company showcasing detailed profile and rating information for dentists in California, Florida, Illinois, New York, Washington, Ohio and Pennsylvania. More states will be added over time.

Avvo raised a $10 million round led by DAG Ventures in 2010, with Benchmark Capital and Ignition Partners also participating. It has raised about $23 million to date.
