The Union Station office complex

One of Seattle’s oldest technology companies is moving to one of Seattle’s oldest neighborhoods.

Attachmate announced today that it plans to relocate from its longtime West Lake Union home (originally the headquarters of WRQ, which merged with Attachmate in  2005) to new offices in Pioneer Square. Attachmate plans to move early next year into 705 Union Station, the project located just east of Safeco Field and CenturyLink Field.

The space had previously been occupied by Amazon.com.

About 250 people will make the transition. Here’s what Kathleen Owens, president and general manager for Attachmate, had to say about the move in a press release:

“The way our customers work is changing. They are dealing with big questions around mobile technology and security regulations while also tasked with providing greater returns on their data investment. As we continue to help them integrate their existing systems with emerging technologies we realized it was time for a change in our own workplace environment. We sought a more vibrant, collaborative and energetic work environment for our employees and are excited to have found that atmosphere in the Union Station building.”

Attachmate’s arrival will be yet another shot in the arm for Pioneer Square, which has attracted other tech companies in recent years. EMC/Isilon moved into 140,000 square feet of space on 1st Avenue South last year, while social gaming company Zynga established its offices in Seattle in the historic Washington Shoe Building. HTC also is reportedly expanding in the neighborhood.
