Apple confirms March 7 event, probably a new iPad

After that whole “iPhone 5″ letdown last year, we’ve learned to be careful about buying into any speculation about Apple’s upcoming announcements.

That said, the company today confirmed that it will hold a special event on March 7 — sending out invites saying, “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”

The picture in the invitation showed what appears to be an iPad, but it’s mysteriously missing a home button, which means that 1) it’s’ an iPad on its side, in landscape orientation or 2) there is no home button.

This much is clear: The event is next Wednesday at 10 a.m., and we’ll know more after that.

iPad provides excellent value. We priced tablet PCs at no less than $900. iPad 3 will start at only $580. That represents a savings of thousands of dollars for even a moderately-sized organization. Add on that iPad 3 requires no firewall or antivirus, and the savings become even greater!
