Those road signs on the interstate can fly by so quickly — especially the ones showing restaurants, lodging, gas and other services at the next exit. That’s the problem that iExit aims to solve. This app for iPhone and Android uses GPS to pinpoint your location and then show you which services are at specific interstate exits across the country.

In my family, this would be called the “Dairy Queen Locator.”

iExit is GeekWire’s App of the Week. With nice clear icons for maximum readability, this app offers the ability to see different services on a map, press to call them, filter to see just a specific type of service (food, lodging, gas, etc.), take notes on each exit, etc.

This app goes for 99 cents for iPhone and iPad, and it’s currently free on Android in a limited-time promotion.

In case it’s not obvious, you should not use this app when driving. Upon launching, the app requires you to agree to use it only when parked, or with a passenger handling the device.

This app a companion of sorts to last week’s selection of traffic and directions app Waze, which we liked primarily because it brings free turn-by-turn directions to the iPhone even before iOS6.

Here’s the audio of this week’s segment.
