It’s easy to put off making your will, but a new app aims to make the process, well, dead simple — all from the comfort of your iPhone.

The app is called Dead Set, and it costs $4.99, but it produces what the developers say is a legally binding (in the U.S.) Last Will and Testament — using information entered into the app by the user to customize the boilerplate legal document.

Users enter their personal information along with details of their assets and their personal contacts. Information in the app is encrypted for security, according to the developers.

Dead Set turns what can be a morbid task into something almost whimsical, with clever quotes about death sprinkled throughout the interface.

In addition, users can rate their heirs based on one to five stars “to proportionally adjust their inheritance” — going back and changing the rating if necessary. And here’s the unique twist, coming soon: Users will be able to poll their friends and relatives to see who wants what.

In the end, the app generates a document that you can email to yourself and print out. As one user points out in the reviews on the App Store, at the very least it could help you prepare for a meeting with an attorney to create a will the old-fashioned way.
